Selection Committee – Ladies

GENERAL:

To select the best available players taking into consideration such matters as –

  • Position in the team.
  • The player has made themselves available for selection by writing their name on the availability sheets.
  • Immediate past performances, not necessarily previous reputation.
  • Compatibility with other members of the team.
  • Any other criteria deemed appropriate for selection.

SPECIFIC:

  • Having the best people in the best positions in a rink to win for that rink, and the team.
  • No player should deem themselves a Club Side player or an A Team player (for the men), members play for Millwood Bowling Club.
  • No player should refuse to play in a position that the selectors have placed them in.
  • No player should deem himself or herself automatically a lead, a second, a third or a skip. On occasions, for the sake of the team, players may be selected to play in a position that they feel is not ‘their’ position, but the selectors feel it is best for the team.
  • The selectors believe that, where possible, keeping a winning team together is a sound selection policy.
  • When a player has a grievance with selection, the player should lodge the complaint with a member of the selection committee, and not indirectly via other members.
  • Matters discussed at selection meetings are to be treated as strictly confidential and all selectors must accept mutual responsibility for decisions of the committee.

UNAVAILABILITY:

  • Selectors understand that players will be unavailable under special circumstances, but players must also understand that, on all but special occasions, they too have a moral obligation to their teammates to be available regularly.
  • In the event a player is unavailable the player should notify selectors and/or list their name on the “Holiday List” on the Notice Board.
  • If members who have made themselves unavailable for Millwood are found to be playing social bowls at match times and selectors determine this is detrimental to the Club’s teams, the selection committee will take appropriate action.

PRACTICE:

  • If the Club is to meet its objectives of gaining promotion or cup progression, it is not unreasonable that all players will practise their bowling during the week.
